A landmark investment that brings more destinations, more local jobs, stronger international connectivity, and lays the foundation for the next chapter of Wizz Air's growth in Spain.
Wizz Air today celebrates a defining milestone in its Spanish journey with the announcement of two new operational bases in Madrid and Valencia. Set to commence operations on November 3 of this year in Madrid and November 2 in Valencia, the new bases represent one of the airline's most significant investments in Spain to date. With aircraft permanently stationed at both airports, Wizz Air will offer an expanded network of destinations, enhanced operational resilience, and an even stronger platform for future growth across the country.
A New Chapter for Wizz Air in Spain
The establishment of operational bases in Madrid and Valencia reflects Wizz Air's long-term commitment to Spain and reinforces the country's strategic importance within the airline's network. By basing aircraft locally, Wizz Air will launch 10 new domestic and 3 international routes, offering leisure and business travellers more choice, greater flexibility, and direct access to an expanding range of destinations across Europe. With these added capacities Wizz Air will also launch 7 new routes all across Spain and increase frequencies in multiple existing routes.
This milestone is only the beginning. The new bases create the infrastructure needed to support continued expansion in the years ahead, strengthening Wizz Air's presence in Spain while bringing even greater connectivity to customers and local communities.
Investing in Local Communities
Beyond strengthening Spain's air connectivity, the new bases will deliver meaningful economic benefits to the regions they serve. Wizz Air's investment will create new employment opportunities while supporting wider growth across tourism, hospitality, airport services and the many businesses that rely on a thriving aviation sector.
The bases will initially be home to 4 aircraft from Wizz Air's modern fleet, further supporting the airline's commitment to operating one of Europe's youngest, most fuel-efficient fleets while improving operational efficiency and customer experience.
"Today marks a defining moment for Wizz Air in Spain. Opening our first operational bases in Madrid and Valencia demonstrates our long-term commitment to one of Europe's most important aviation markets and reflects our confidence in its future. This investment enables us to bring more destinations, create new local jobs and provide even better connectivity for millions of travellers. We are proud to become an even stronger part of Spain's aviation landscape, and this is only the beginning of our ambitions here. Let’s WIZZ!" said József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air.
Creating New Career Opportunities
As part of this expansion, Wizz Air will recruit more than 150 new locally based cabin crew and pilots to support operations in Madrid and Valencia. The airline is looking for passionate aviation professionals to join its growing Spanish team, offering exciting long-term career opportunities in one of Europe's fastest-growing airlines. Cabin crew recruitment events will take place in Madrid and Valencia, while Pilot recruitment events will be held at the airline’s state of the art training centre in Rome in July and August, with further information and application details available at careers.wizzair.com.
